Summer 2013 review- Heavy hitters

This list contains the films of this years summer that soared over the box office and over the expectations of critics and moviegoers alike.

Iron Man 3
The third instalment in the iron man series saw more of tony stark and less of the iron clad superhero, which made a nice change as this was probably the best in the trilogy. Directed by Shane Black (kiss, kiss, bang, bang) this film saw the genius, billionaire, playboy thrilanthropist superhero take on the terrorist known as the mandarin

The film may have seemed slightly dull to very young viewers , but to the rest of the population p this was a funny, smart and quite dramatic superhero movie. Robert Downey Jr was brilliant as usual and this film made him the most successful screen superhero of all time with the avengers and this both passing the £1,000,000,000 mark.

Fast & furious 6
The 6th fast and furious film brought the over the top action and adrenaline fuelled car chases back again, and somehow this series is still entertaining, mindless fun. Now the 7th is in production, we can expect even more and a great fight between Diesel and Statham.

The sixth instalment saw the group travel the world in a wild, ridiculous goose chase with a master criminal, ending of course on a runway the size of the United States. There was also a subplot involving dom's ex girlfriend being alive and making her be good again, leaving space for some terribly made sentimental scenes. This almost made the billion mark, but didn't quite get the cut.

Man of steel
The sixth superman movie, was more of a reboot for the series, but it was a shame that Zack Snyders man of steel was average, not living up to anyone's expectations of the film. Besides this, Henry Cavill was very good as superman and Michael Shannon was a good Zod, but it was Kevin Costner who stole the limelight in this film playing the heros adoptive father John Kent.

It was the third act of this film that lowered the opinion of the film from many people. The final act of this film is a no holds barred fight t see who can cause more destruction, ending with a monetary value of £750 billion worth of destruction. The film ended up taking almost £650 billion worldwide which is a large profit, but for a film that has many problems.

World war Z
Marc Forster (quantum of solace, machine gun preacher) directs the move adaptation of the book of the same name, but changing some major plot points like the plot. The novel was about a man interviewing survivors and chronicling the zombie apocalypse, whereas the film centres around Brad Pitt playing a man who fights the undead in the hope of discovering a cure and help his family by not being with them.

There are no exceptional performances, but the film was easily entertaining, taking over £600 million worldwide. The main problem is the final act which takes place at a w.h.o site in Wales. This doesn't quite match the exotic and exciting locations shown earlier in the film, but is very intense and has an incredibly claustrophobic feel to it.
