Review-

Jeff Wadlow directs the sequel to what was probably the biggest and best surprise of 2010. The first kick-ass was a funny and at sometimes shocking comedy about a teenager who wanted to become a superhero, so he became a vigilante in a tight green wetsuit using two batons as his weapons. The original film had a great deal of laughs and some brilliantly shot fight scenes.

Jeff Wadlow is no stranger to directing action films with his most famous film t date being the modern karate kid reboot never back down. The direction wasn't the problem with that film other than the script and actors.

This brings us to kick-ass 2 which takes place about 2 years after the first film, where now Mindy/Hit Girl is now struggling with her new social life in high school whilst being a vigilante in her spare time. During this Dave/ Kick-Ass has retired from being a hero and is just trying to be normal. This obviously changes when Chris/Red Mist has now been reborn as the worlds first supervillain.

The laughs are still contained within this film and the action is still top notch, which makes kick-ass 2 a great sequel, but maybe not as good as the first film, despite this the first is a very difficult film to beat and could only be equal at best, but never better.

There are no brilliant performances in this film, but its not what you expect from this or the original, you just expect to have fun and that is what you get.this isn't to say that the actors are bad, because the large cast is incredibly talented and show that, but don't expect any Oscar nominations.

The action scenes a brilliant in this film and can easily contend with the quality of the likes of skyfall or the avengers, and the violence is still over the top and quite brutal. The best thing about the a action scenes is the cinematography, which manages to keep these quick paced scenes come across in a way that is easy to follow which differs from other recent films like the lone ranger where the final scene can be confusing and hard to keep track of.

Verdict-

Kick-ass 2 is a great sequel, but doesn't quite match up to the ridiculousness and majesty of the first, but the laughs and great action is still there.

7/10
