Roland Emmerich is back on form (almost) with White House Down; a great follow up to two incredibly bad films. The films revolves around a man named John Cale (Tatum) who has problems with his child and wife, works for the police and wears a grubby vest whilst saving a group of hostages, this may sound very familiar but its still an extremely entertaining and over the top action film. This may be a Die Hard rip-off, but still a better one than Olympus Has Fallen despite expecting more from the director.

Roland Emmerich is still making everything look huge, including just one shot of a helicopter looks like a grand scale actions sequence without any need for excessive explosions or Bay-esque stupidity. Channing Tatum does a good job of playing the everyman Cale as he is surprisingly funny and good during the large action sequences. Foxx does a great job of playing the president and again is great during the comedic and action based scenes.

As usual, almost everything is shot on a grand scale and all the visuals look great and brilliantly similar to that of Independence Day. My main problem with the visuals is the graphics which at some times are a quite bad, but you couldn't expect the army to really fly helicopters through the streets of Washington D.C so I'll be a bit more lenient.

In the end White House Down is a good waste of 2 hours and should probably be watched on the biggest, dumbest screen you can find just to have a good time.

7/10
