This is only gonna be a short article but revolves around an aspect of modern cinema marketing that, to quote the wise Peter Griffin, really grinds my gears. This is the obsession in releasing teaser trailers for trailers. These usually start happening about a week before a trailer for a big release is revealed, and are typically about 10-15 seconds long. This really pisses me off for one reason; anticipation. What is the point in creating this much hype for something as menial as a teaser trailer.
This has seemed to have become popular over the last few years, with the earliest one I can remember being for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, so it wasn't just the trailer that was rather disappointing. Truthfully, the trailers for Scott's Alien spin-off-cum-prequel were more intense and more entertaining than the final feature, but I suppose his downfall as a director is something that could be covered in a different article.
I mean, giving people a countdown for the premiere or the actual release of the film would seem reasonable, but a countdown for the release date of an advertisement would seem a little void of reason. Could you imagine the sort of shit that would occur if other companies did the same thing... "In 7 days... Get baked with Warburtons latest Ad", or "In 4 days time, the latest Sun life promotion finally revealed"... Pointless right, so whats the point in doing it with films.
That said, I'd love to see someone take Warburton's bread that seriously. The advert with Sly Stallone may have just about been enough.
