When Fox first attempted to create Deadpool back in 2009 with X-Men Origins: Wolverine we (collection of fans) were sorely disappointed with the terrible result, although from that point on it was clear that Ryan Reynolds would always make a good Deadpool and this trailer just adds to that thought. At the end of the film we see a cross between Mortal Kombats Baraka and that dude with the elbow blades from Hellboy (sorry but I really cannot remember his name right now) with swords coming out of his skin and the ability to teleport. But worse of all, they sewed his mouth shut.... They took the "merc with a mouth"... And sewed his fucking mouth shut (clever move Fox). At least that aspect was satirised in the teaser for the trailer a few days ago.
By the looks of things, Fox took notice of what really went wrong and after the great reception that the leaked test footage received, the Deadpool movie finally began production. Shorting primarily in Vancouver, this is now one of the highest anticipated films of the next year for many people, myself included. Nevertheless, I think I should probably move on to the trailer itself.
Although, this will be about the red band trailer (so all you little'uns go seeks parental guidance before continuing). The trailer is basically the same as the one shown at comic con earlier this year except with a couple of shots and one possibly homophobic joke removed (there would be no point in a Deadpool if it wasn't gratuitously offensive so that chrome cock gobbler joke should make the final cut).
Humour
The biggest worry with the announcement of a Deadpool film was always going to be... What if they fuck up his humour. Fortunately by the look of this trailer and from the green band trailer we will be treated to meta humour (don't make the supersuit green or animated) and fourth wall breaks (cue the music). This will be Ryan Reynolds' third try in a superhero franchise, having previously appeared in both the third Blade movie (Blade: Trinity in which his wise cracking take on Hannibal King was the film's biggest redeeming feature and Reynolds introduced many to the use of the insult thundercunt) and the ill fated attempt at Green Lantern back in 2011, which for lack of a more precise term, was absolutely shit.
The pattern here is that he has a habit of playing characters who are incredibly sarcastic and quick witted so Deadpool seemed like an obvious choice. That said, Reynolds has played a vital role in bringing this incarnation of the character to the screen, constantly showing a clear passion for the character and refusing to take on the role if it were not to his liking.
The action
Slick is the only way I can describe the way the action looks in this trailer. From what has been called the 12 bullet fight by director Tim Miller in his interview with Empire to the sword fight with Ed Skrein's Ajax the action looks like it's just as impressive as the jokes. The worry was going to be that the writers and director would focus way too much on the humour (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but Deadpools tendency to unalive people is what makes him such an endearing anti hero). From the look of this trailer, those worries are slowly disappearing and pure excitement is beginning to take over.
Either way I am very very very very excited for this film, the wait for next February will be a long one but the pay off sure has hell better be worth it.
