Riddick returns for a third adventure in the new film of the same name, proving this is a franchise best left alone now (or in the beginning). This time we see the title character fight a group of ruthless mercenaries with no motive and another group of mercenaries with a meaningless motive. Oh, and during this there is a horde of ravenous beasts roaming towards the group. The main problem for this film belongs to the gimmick that Diesel can see in the dark. This includes the tagline "rule the dark" and the countless close ups that are both annoying and in the most inappropriate places throughout the film. Other than this, Diesels performance isn't much better as he is just there to make one liners and to fight people using some seamlessly ridiculous skills not familiar to that of pitch black or chronicles.
The acting in this film is beyond terrible; it's atrocious. The best part of acting in this film belongs to Karl Urban who makes a 20 second cameo as Vaakos (the character he played in Chronicles), which just shows that either he is an Oscar contender or the acting in this film would look better in an 80's TV movie.
The visuals in this film are great, but that is the least you expect from a big budget sci-fi film, but the visuals are nothing amazing compared to that of Pacific Rim or Total Recall.
The best part about this film is the pacing; this film is on for just shy of 2 hours, and goes by with such pace that before you know it, it's finished. The best part about this is it is a bad film so fast pacing is a great advantage.
In the end Riddick proves that the franchise has run its course, but should really stop now, but this would make a great straight to DVD rip off.
5/10
