The first chronicle was a great insight into the lives of these people who acquired these powers and how they affected their lives. Spoilers ahead. The ending of the first film left us with only Matt left who promises to find out what happened to his cousin, best friend and him. This leaves the possibilities for a sequel wide open, but is that what the audience who adored the original want to see? It was the realism of the original that aided the films impact on the audience last year, and is this what proved that you don't need to know what really happened underground and what that mysterious object
Was.
Max Landis brought this forward last year with a screenplay that held great depth and detail to the characters (especially in the extended blu ray cut), whilst touching on subjects that others have been to scared to such as domestic abuse.
Landis had hinted the ideas contained within his script on twitter recently stating that "In their place was a dark, frustratingly unblinking stare into a complicated world that posed the question, is it worth it to be a hero... Told from the point of view of a heartbroken and insane woman who would martyr herself to the cause of being the world's first villain."
This would have easily matched the dark tone of the first film, so it poses the question what do fox want from this sequel? Do they just want a boring sequel seeing Matt looking for reasons, which would lose all realism that the first film contained.
